Ambler Savings Bank gave a check for $10,000 to the Education Foundation for the Methacton Community on Nov. 4 as a contribution to Methacton High School’s Electric Car Club, according to a media release from the bank.

The school’s car club, which began in 2001, accepts members from grades 9 through 12 and meets weekly. It is one of the educational offerings accepted by Pennsylvania for Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program (EITC) donations.

The EITC program allows businesses who donate to organizations approved by the program to write off up to 90% of the donation in tax credit form. In participating, the business must also make a two-year commitment to the organization.

“We are a community bank and want to support the local schools and student learning through innovative programs such as the Electric Car Club,? said Roger Zacharia, the bank’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The club has built an electric car, which is called “The Lorax.? They recently bought a box truck that they are trying to convert to run on used vegetable oil, which is supplied by local restaurants. There is a photovoltaic array on top of the truck to be used to charge the club’s electric car and the displays in a mobile classroom. The truck will also be used as a mobile classroom to teach the public about alternative energy sources.
